Tuesday 5th August at 0545 I duly set off on another planned visit to the BAA’s stretch of the Worcs Stour …
Early morning traffic was again light and I arrived at the gate around 0620…
After arrival on the car parking area and with car unloaded, I walked to the location of my last visit, deposited the tackle, and had a walk further downstream to view the prospects … but decided in the end to fish my original swim.

So after the usual preliminary pre-baiting, settling in – and with ALL my previous tackle issues resolved (ie had right quivertip installed, etc) – I made first casts, with the usual worm, casting to the spot where I had been having the bites on the previous visit (in the area/bay to the right/upstream end of the overhanging bush – where my rod is pointed too in the photo – but all was very quiet there and not a tremble for the first hour or so despite switching to maggot and prawn pieces and catapulting a few maggots into the area every 15 minutes…
So I thought I’d give downstream a try casting to just off the downstream end of the bush and immediately had knocks and twitches … soon followed by the landing of a perch of about 4oz.
Bites and knocks continued throughout the rest of the day until I packed in at around 1400 with a tally of the original perch, a roach, two chublets and a gudgeon … none of the hoped for bigger fish appeared although I did have some big hoop-the-rod over pulls but whether or not those were better fish…who knows?
PLANS
OK then… on Monday 11th August I’m venturing down to the Lower Severn down Worcester way… I’ve obtained a licence with a local club with a short stretch of water there – and my best mate fishes there for barbel but he’s not been doing good in his terms as he’s often ‘pestered’ by bream … sounds like heaven to me though, so looking forward to the trip and day… possibly even see my buddy :)
Other than that I’m intending to change the front legs of my river chair – they are too short even with rear legs not extended and they at full extension and so I tend to slide downwards on the very sloping banks of the Severn. I’ve bought suitable aluminium tube (actually better than the original 17mm OD 0.6mm walled stuff as its 17mm OD 2mm walled) so now need to move the mud feet from the old tube to the new tubing… Also on the cards is prepping for the new upcoming pike season … I’m thinking of moving from treble hooks to using circle hooks and so need to research best ways of use PLUS I’m going to be making up some special traces for wobbling deadbaits PLUS sort out pop-up rigs as I’m not too happy with how I’ve been doing it in the past.
Also beginning of October sees our usual autumn trip to Burnham-on-Sea so need to refine tackle to be taken there… :)
