Session 00 – Pre-Season Talk

Well, hee hee hee…. look who the cat’s dragged back in!

Yep, it REALLY is me!

First things, first…

A LATE WISH FOR A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL!
OR AT LEAST FOR THE REMAINDER OF IT BUT HOPING IT HAS BEEN SO FAR TOO!

Secondly an update on myself and why I’ve not been around until now….

Well, like many others it seems as I’ve not seen many postings since Xmas 2024, the weather has played a big part in my lack of waterside visits for the past few months. Indeed as I write this I still stand at 0 Sessions undertaken in 2025 so far. Plus health has played a part too although even that cause has maybe also been weather influenced in that you if feel ‘not quite right’/lethargic then if its also cold and wet the decision of ‘do I stay or do I go’ gets its balance shifted over to the more comfortable side. I suppose the horrendous river conditions have also had a big influence on the devotees of flowing water too…

As I say, at times I’d not been feeling too good but none worse than end of October through into January. It all started on our last couple of days at Burnham when I picked up a very painful ear infection … so on return home I visited my GP who prescribed a week of anti-biotics which helped the pain but ear was popping, another week of anti-b’s … a ENT review at the hospital the next week where I ended up being given 3 weeks of anti-b ear drops … which cleared the ears … all good … BUT then ended having to go to the dentist with an infected tooth less than a week later where I was again prescribed a week of 2 anti-b tablets to be taken together. Fine for a week but then had a bowel issue that seemed similar to that that I had pre cancer in 2019 inc blood, so back to GP and sent for blood samples and poo samples and finally sent for a colonoscopy at start of Feb. Colonoscopy was clear J … and so it seems that the long run of anti-b’s had upset my guts by adversely affecting the good bacteria in the system. Anyway, that all does seem to be settling down a bit now and I’ve already plans for fishing!!

Next week Liz and I are back to Somerset (Burnham-on-Sea) where I hope to have my first waterside experience of this year (Tues 18th planned) – a solo session whilst Liz goes swimming – and a joint, with Liz, session later in the week. Tackle bags, etc are already packed and baits are being prepped (in fact, my worms arrived in the post this morning) bit by bit. And we’ve booked a return to Burnham for early October too.

Planning my first ‘home’ session on club waters to be taken the week beginning April 1st – would go the previous week but with arriving home on the Monday with all the general unpacking and resorting of tackle and baits taking up the rest of week it’s better not to rush?

So… I’m hoping that all of you out there are in good fettle and planning to back out and about. Looking forward to reading the reports of your sessions!

So I’ll be writing up my first sessions of 2025 soon – probably posted the week of 1st April as (a) will only have my mobile and pad with me and typing on virtual keyboards for me is atrocious (b) ‘net access is dodgy onsite with mobile data hit and miss (mainly miss) and WiFi only accessible via the bars and entertainment centre which we don’t visit too often and then only for short stays.

Everybody be good! And tight lines if you are on the waters!

  1. Good to hear from you Steve. Yes, the weather has influenced my lack of fishing this year. That and the fact that I have rediscovered drawing/painting! I’m planning to return to the bank within the next fortnight though, so I will be back. Look forward to reading your successful report 🤞
