THE 2026 POEM — HAPPY NEW YEAR – AND YES, I REALLY AM HERE!!!!

THIS BIT WAS ADDED TODAY (17th Feb) AFTER A FAILED POSTING ATTEMPT ON THE 13th)…

ANOTHER medical appointment albeit unplanned yesterday… A bit of an eye problem developed (possibly 2 problems actually)… Right had been a bit weepy and sore and feeling as if I’d a bit of grit in the corner … while looking at it for me Liz noted what looked like a small (1mm threadlike) streak across my pupil … tried washing, syringing and cotton budding it but failed to get it to even move … so yesterday went to the GP, saw the paramedic who had a look then called in the GP and neither could help so I was referred to the hospital’s Referral Unit in Wolverhampton … but after 3 hours waiting to be seen by a specialist we were going to have to leave as Liz had a X-ray appointment in Dudley to attend … informed the reception desk and whilst doing a SR came to see what the problem was and took me to one of the consultation/examination rooms and and had a look using the eye inspection kit… and then sprayed my eye with some local anaesthetic and, using a cotton bud, managed to remove the item – so 3 hours waiting followed by <2 minutes treatment and all done LOL! Unknown item recovered , looked like a small shard of paper but if so how it got there I’ve no idea … I was and also given a tube of ointment to apply 4 times a day for seven days… so …  now to the original posting as should have been…

13th February

Oh well my readers I’m hoping you are well… and I know Matty and WheatNotCasters have made it out onto the waters recently … And hoping all had great Christmases and that the New Year has been good to you so far! My tale goes back to late August ’25 …. having not heard anything regarding my hoped for hernia operation at that time… Last few days of August … on my PC and my half drunk coffee had gone cold … so nipped downstairs to reheat in the microwave … came back up and put mug by side of PC … a couple cables were annoying me so decided to move them … resulting in scalding hot coffee falling on to my belly. thighs and lower legs … immediately ran to shower and stood under whilst stripping off … then jumped into the bath filled with cold water … eventually taken to A&E by Liz as blistering on right calf. Was seen to and wound was dressed and told only minor surface skin damage caused but to visit GP nurse to get dressing changed… which I did but told that would need redressing a few more times…. AND then Judge Sod and his law (similar to Judge Murphy’s law ‘if anything can go wrong it will’ but adds on ‘at the worse possible time’) comes along to add to the mishap in the form of a phone call from the hospital inviting me to have my op on September 12th!! Unfortunately, due to my open wounds I had to decline… :( … and was told I’d be taken off the waiting list for the time being BUT as soon as I was recovered to contact them and that I’d be put back on top of the list…. SO Sept passed and we entered October, still with leg wounds needing twice weekly redressing but I was ok to have a week’s holiday in Somerset  which also saw my last fishing session to date… and Liz applying the fresh dressings… So November came along but mid-month after another 2 weeks of  redressings I was passed as fit to get back on the waiting list… and immediately the hospital was contacted to perform that deed… however, the lady who was dealing with my appointment wasn’t personally available but I was informed that my re-instatement would be dealt with.. You probably will have guessed but that didn’t happen as after another 10 days of not hearing we rang again and spoke to ‘our’ lady and told after she had checked that I hadn’t been re-added… this was then corrected… Early December (around 10th IIRC) I was given a date for the op… 11th January with the pre-op assessment to be done 29th Dec. So come 29/12 we are about to leave for the pre-op and find a letter on the doormat … operation date postponed to later date TBA. So went to pre-op, all was fine and op can go ahead whenever I get a date… Told them that we’re away for a week mid-March for them to avoid that week. AND November, December and up until last week were filled with other appointments… diabetes reviews/tests, cortisone thumb injections (inc changed dates), podiatry appointments, dentist appointments …. in fact during Oct-mid Jan I spent more time in medical establishments than I did at home!! Well, felt like that anyway… but the Christmas period itself went well and was enjoyed… So no fishing done … but with the weather as it’s been it’s not really been missed… but I am looking to the March break when we’ll be back in Somerset and I’m  planning to hopefully have my first session of 2026!!! Anyway, as said. hoping you are all well and have the best 2026s possible… and hopefully I’ll be back reporting my latest blanks soon!! :D
