So, Friday 13th June (should have realised the date maybe?) I set off again … slightly later than the last couple of outings at 0545 … heading again for Kingsbury Water Park but this time over the road and on the other side of the M42 to fish Gibson’s Pool …

Well, I got there OK … just one slight error following the SatNav when I took a turn off an island too late … and had to U turn.
Drove down to the car park, one chap already unloading on arrival, unloaded my stuff onto my barrow and started off to my intended destination after having planned the route in my head several times whilst perusing the maps the previous evening… and this when I started to go wrong! As usual… LOL!
As I understood it…. the walk starts down a path to the right of Cliff Pool South and then at a point a track leads branches off to the left but I was to carry on straight and Gibsons Pool should be on my right…
What happened …. I walked as said … on and on … along ‘Cliff Pool South’ with no sign of a pool to the right even after dropping off the barrow and veering down a small track that led off to the right to investigate … and ended up at the Camping and Caravan Club’s field but no sign of water.
At that point I gave up and thought I’d get the barrow and return to ‘Cliff Pool South’ … and I soon found what looked a nice spot – see photos – and decided to set up there with the usual leger/feeder setup … worm and corn baits….
NOW I had a ‘vision’ and a spark of electricity in my brain … as I sat there waiting for a bite … I spotted over on the far bank an opening into another pool … and thought ‘AM I ON ACTUALLY ON GIBSONS???’ as Gibsons is shaped a bit like 2 lungs (and actually the two lobes were actually used as two different pools in the past I have found out since on the web). Then I thought ‘Wait a minute! That track that led off to the left at the start of the walk from the car park would terminate Cliff Pool South wouldn’t it?’ and hence anything beyond that path would have to be a different water ie Gibsons! Oh well, learnt something at least … my map reading is rubbish!
As to the fishing … again not a single nudge or knock all day until I packed up at 1430 to start the drive home.
It had been a hot day and the thought of a stop off at my local would be nice … but arrived there at 1600 and was it was closed. I wasn’t sure about opening and had a sneaking feeling it was 1800 opening in the week anyway. So I thought I‘d go to a second local that I know is always open from midday. However, it was the other side of the village and traffic was heavy and I decided to divert eventually back to home and open a bottle there … London Porter and very nice it was too!
PLANS
With Liz due back from Cyprus at 0215 Tuesday morning options are limited next week due to chauffeuring at that time meaning I’d need rest on Monday before setting off to collect … and then on Tuesday after the collection and return home. SO… as its start of river season I’m planning to return to KWP and have a day on their stretch of the River Tame and hopefully get better results.
