Session 21 – A Short Session

Thursday 12th September I headed out as usual to ‘the’ pool….

The previous day had been mixed with quite some rain but the forecast for the 14th had seemed to be not bad until midday and so I thought I’d take the chance…

Setting off at 0600 there were a few spots of rain falling on the windscreen but that stopped en route and the sky ahead appeared to brighten so I was optimistic that I’d manage a few hours …

Once there I drove up to my usual swim – again with the weather as it had been the previous day I didn’t expect to find anyone else there and there wasn’t. However, on arrival I discovered a willow tree directly on the left side of the peg had succumbed to earlier winds on the previous Thursday/Friday and split/snapped at the top of it’s trunk – it had been ok when I fished there on that Thursday but I was told that it was down on the Friday when someone else had fished that peg. It didn’t hinder access or the fishing though …

So I set up per usual and cast out … and managed to fish for an hour during which a long sharp shower appeared and the skies around grew greyer and greyer and the track from the peg to the exit gate became more puddle. It was cold rain too (later that evening we had hail) as it fell on my legs … So, all in all, with the cold water falling not going to improve the fishing and the track getting wetter and wetter making exit without getting stuck less and less likelier, I decided to leave after about an hour of biteless fishing…

On the way home it did brighten up per usual BUT come midday it all changed again and became very wet so happy I chose the right thing to do…

PLANS

OK … Liz’s Dad arrived from Cyprus yesterday (or today really) as expected except landing was later than scheduled the plane from Birmingham to Paphos landed an hour later timetabled and that meant it’s return to Birmingham was also an hour behind time – landed at 0322 this morning rather than the stated 0215. That plus unloading/customs time meant we didn’t get home until 0530.

Anyway, 0900 on Monday (16th) I’m dropping Liz and Dad off at Wolverhampton Metro to head to Birmingham where they’ll meet up with a friend at Birmingham New Street to get the train to Great Yarmouth to spend a week with Liz’s brother and sis-in-law, returning the following Monday (23rd).

So, I’ve a week on my own and planning to fish 2-3 times over that period – possibly the Severn on Tuesday (17th) on the BAA stretch at Ladyham hoping for decent bream … Thursday (19th) probably back to Barlow’s … Friday or Saturday possibly on the canal with small ‘hornet’ like lures for perch… but all depends on weather and medication needs, etc.

Possibly, I’ll get an AA guest ticket for Phil (Liz’s Dad) for the Wednesday (25th) and take him to Oak for a few hours fishing before he returns to Paphos on the Friday (27th) …

And then on the 27th … after dropping Phil off at B’ham International … Liz and I will return home, drop the car off, and hop on a bus to Sedgley for the Sedgley Charity Beer Festival with a possible return on the Saturday too … :)
