Sessions 10 & 11 – BAA Nordley (Pool 1)

Session 10

Monday May 27th, I set off at 0600 to the BAA Nordley Pools which lie about 3.5 miles north of Bridgnorth.

I’ve fished there previously but the last time would have been around 4 to 5 years ago albeit Liz and I did visit about a year ago intending to fish but discovered work parties at the pools and so we had a quick look but then went elsewhere to wet our lines.

There are 6 pools at the venue – albeit the 6th is little more than a duck pond and whenever visited has been covered in duck weed so unfishable anyway – and it has 2 car parks, one by Pool 1 (for Pools 1 & 2) and the other at Pool 4 for the other pools.

For this trip I elected to fish Pool 1 as I had previously had some nice, if not huge, bream from there previously.

I was a bit lazy in choice of swim and elected to fish what I regard as Peg 1, the first peg reached when walking anti-clockwise. And easy peg to access – large hard cored peg with a down to so easy to access – well that’s what I thought when I saw it! Actually quite a steep slope and found myself getting pulled down it by the barrow and so having to do emergency stops – and a hard push back up at the end of the day – probably not a ‘disabled peg’ then as I’d thought it was meant to be!

I fished my two feeder rods, making first casts about 0745 and making final retrieves at 1430 fishing worm and bread baits … without a single nibble being detected between times! In fact, at the end of the day I removed the worm I’d started the day with from the hook!

Not a great success!

Session 11

Undaunted, I returned to Nordley Pool 1 on Monday June 3rd accompanied by Liz but this time swims at the other end of the pool were selected on the grounds as the dam wall twixt pools 1 and 2 lay at that end and so, possibly, deeper water…

On my previous trip I had had the pool to myself, others arriving seemed to continue onwards to Pool 2 but on this trip a couple arrived soon after us and set up opposite – we were ok with that actually as the one guy had problems and his mate had to carry his gear to the water and set up his seat, etc. One other passed by to Pool 2 but did come back up a couple of hours later to fish the far bank left corner. One guy was also on Pool 2 at the time of our arrival.

So… again I fished two feeder rods with frame feeders using worm and bread baits whilst fished a single frame feeder and fished with maggot.

A quiet but pleasant day with myself having 3 (or 4) small perch and Liz a bream of about 1.5lb

One of the guys from the far bank walked round and stopped for a chat – he said they’d a few small bits … and last week from my swim they did alright and had a bream of about 6lb amongst the others… said it fishes really well at times… oh well, shall have to return and maybe try Pool 2…

But plans are for an outing to the River Severn at place called Ladyham, again a BAA controlled water, on Monday 17th June, for my initial flowing trip of the new season. I’ve fished there once before with the usual result (ie a blank) back in September of 2023 but its nice water (for me anyway) being deep and slow and ‘breamy’ … and a plus to my visit will be the fact that a opening season match is being fished there on Sunday 16th so putting feed into the water and hopefully enticing the prey on to the feed….

So that’s it from me… for a short time!

All the best to you all! Tight lines!
