Session 4 (2024) – Got Out Eventually! In Two Different Perspectives…

Tuesday 19th February the weather and life in general eventually combined to permit some fishing! And so Liz and myself set off at 0900 as due to the lack of practice the usual early morning rising had fallen by the wayside over the long break it  seems – but it also allowed the day to get started and brighten and ‘warm’ (relatively) up a bit – and also leaving the house between the hours of 0715 and 0900 means queuing amongst the work going traffic of the less fortunate…

Destination for the day was the club’s ‘tench and bream’ pool where we arrived around 45 minutes later…

We chose to fish swims on the near end of the pool but far bank as work was being undertaken to clean up the island at the far end of the pool where our other usual pegs are…

We both elected to fish frame feeders loaded with groundbait, cereals and dead maggot to begin with although later in the day switched to a maggot feeder… Liz used maggot hook baits and I used worm.

And, not a lot to report really as bites were scarce with Liz having absolutely none and myself just a few small tweaks, possibly liners…

Most activity of the day came when leaving the fishery as twice the car got a bit stuck on the muddy ground – the first time wasn’t too bad as the slip was due literally to being like grease on a plastic sheet ie wheels rotating but not sinking and easily resolved by Liz in the driving seat whilst I just leaned back (hardly any effort) on the bonnet and it managed to get a proper grip. The second time was more difficult though as softer ground was involved. Anyway, Liz had started the short walk back up to the pool’s first exit gate that she’d opened before I got stuck and had then returned from to assist me. But as I drove the car I caught up with up to her just before that gate and as I intended to continue on through the gate and proceed on to the second gate per usual I pulled slightly left and the front nearside wheel came off the hardcore, wheel spun and sunk… actually three wheels were on solid ground, just the one front left side wheel on the soft ground but that one was a driven wheel … and with the differential gearing it meant that that wheel spun like crazy but the wheel on solid ground would not rotate even 1mm! First thought was to deflate the tyre on the stricken wheel but there was so much mud on the rim that I couldn’t locate it … We did eventually get free though (home now aren’t we? J) by locating a paving slab, digging a corner of which down into the mud in front of the wheel, Liz pushing like crazy and me getting the car to rock backwards and forwards on the accelerator/clutch… Liz has still not forgiven me and blames me for backaches!!!!

Anyway … until the next time … all the very best to you!!
