Session 18 – Back To The Mike Day Fishery…

Wednesday, September 6th, I was off again on the second day of my ‘week’ with Liz away on a break.

0545 saw me on the road to the club’s Mike Day fishery and, as usual, being the first arrival although a couple of others turned up later in the day.

I visited the peg I’d ‘cleared’ a couple of sessions previously, a peg that faces the far end of the pool’s small island that usually fishes ok for me. I’ve had barbel, perch and bream from the swim so fish do frequent the area (was that a ‘spoiler’ as to what is to come?)..

As usual, I tackled up with my 13’ float rod with 6lb line, size 14 hook, 2SSG Drennan driftbeater float … and fed crumb, particles and maggot into the swim.

My first cast was made around 0730 … and although carp were cruising and small fish dimpling I had not one knock on my maggot/worm/bread/corn baited float at all.

1300 I called it a day after casting and catching the edge of a bramble bush on the island resulting in a break off – I wasn’t sufficiently motivated to re-tackle there and then….

Thursday, 7th, I planned as a ‘rest and shopping day’

UPDATE:

On Tuesday this week it was reported that there had been fatalities of several large tench and carp – the EA was called in and cessation of fishing was advised whilst extra aeration measures were also undertaken. The next day we had wind, rain and cooler temps and further days have been similar so hopefully that will help improve matters.
